Sourdough Focaccia "Supreme"

"Supreme" aka Brooklyn (garlic, salt, SD tomatoes, sauteed onions, mushrooms, pine nuts, olvie oil and Parmesan cheese) . The starter came from Alaska.

Check out the crumb.

Something is wrong

Anchorage just saw its first snowfall of the year; 3 weeks behind schedule. I just watched 75 or more geese fly overhead - 2 weeks after geese should be gone (to their credit they were headed south). Good luck to us all.

Grill Guy (Burns longer), 2009

I seem to recall, growing up, that the guy on the bag of compressed charcoal briquets wore a chefs hat. Of course I could be wrong.

Why Anchorage trumps LA

Anchorage is an ugly city, but then so is LA. A quick day trip about 45 miles outside of ANC put me on a Glacier. 45 miles outside of LA gets you what?

But then, can LA beat Alaska for kitsch? We drove past this (Igloo) on the Parks Highway heading north to Fairbanks last week. Took a snapshot on the way back.

UPDATE 001: The Igloo was built by Leon Smith and his wife Elizabeth. As far as I can tell work on The Igloo started in 1972. Leon and his wife hoped to cash in on traffic on the, then, recently completed Parks Highway. From what I've read the Igloo hotel was never occupied. Leon Smith, a WWII veteran, died in 1999. I need to do more research.
